xc - COTD1

Last weeked I walked around the Linden Hill Cemetery and New York City Marble Cemetery. Unfortunately it was a rainy day but it didn't affect my opinion about these places. The cemetries are always silent and and very well-kept. Every thing is done well: clean roads, green trees and nice bushes. When I walked around it, I started to think about the people who been here before and why they had been there. The people who came to the cemetary all express a different emotion. Some cry because they miss the person who passed away and others just come to speak to them as if they are still alive.  But all people come to the cemetary for one main reason, to keep the memory of a loved friend or family member alive.

The cemetry also gives us an ability to imagine the funeral process of each grave. You try to guess what happened to this person by looking at the dates of his dead and how many years he or she lived on this world. I believe that cemetaries are a home for our souls and when we're coming to the grave of the person we knew before, we can speak to them. This is normal because most of the people think that thay could hear us but could not respond. Cemetary is a place which is located between our world and the God that we believe in. I really enjoyed walking there because for twenty minutes I forgot any problem that I have in my life and relaxed by looking around the beatiful place. As I respectfully walked around, I felt very peaceful.

When I was there, I realized how the cemetaries change throughout life. When I was very young, I was very afraid of them and never wanted to go there.  I just imagined all of the dead people under the ground that I walk on.  Now that I am older I understand why they are important.  They give people a chance to say goodbye to their family members and friends and remember them forever. When people become even older than I am now, they begin to plan for death by buying graves in cemetaries.  They try to find places next to their loved ones.

Here I would like to write my opinion about the scienctific museum " Bodies Exhibit" (BE) where I've been last weekend. The museum is located in a beautiful place in downtown of the New York City near the sea port. There were a lot of people(tourists and just a residents of NYC) who were visiting this museum. It shows that the museum is a very famous and many people know about it. The main idea of the museum is to show us the human body from inside with interesting facts of that. As I remember in the first room of the BE I saw two skeletons which were doing different actions and I observed their movement to see how our muscles are working when we are move. The very important fact of this museum is that all exihibits there are  real and that makes it tottaly the same to our body. Also on the liitle table I read the intersting fact that if all our muscles are work together, we could lift the weight almost the 10 tons. In the next room we can see the brains and the breathing system of the human and the best thing of this room is a place where we can compare lungs of the normal and smoking person and we can see that the person who is smooking has an issue with his breathing system and in front of this showcase is a big plastic cube where everybody who is smoking could drop their pack of cigarretes and there were about one hundred packs in it. I was really surprised when I saw it. My favorite room is the blood circulation and pulse room. This room is made with a red light from many screens which shows the blood circulation and we can hear the pulse noise from there which makes us feel like we are inside the body. I enjoyed the trip to this museum because I have never been before in the place like that. We could learn many interesting and smart things from there which we will never forget because this is a real bodies like we have and all things are true.

Some people may have problems with the exhibit because it puts people that have died in front of others like a spectacle.  They think that this does not show respect for the dead people and uses them to make money.  It is also possible that some of the bodies are of prisoners or murdered people, so it seems wrong to make money from their deaths.

HW 55 - Culminating Project - Care of the Dead

Are Dead Bodies Dangerous?,
So after we passed enough information which relates to the care of the dead, I would like to discuss this topic because I found this really intersting and it has a myth element which could make us to think about that is it real or not. What we learned before it was a basic " Care of the Dead " things which soon or late we still have to know about it. Are Dead Bodies Dangerous?-this type of questions is very serious because it could be related to our health. We should think about very specifically because we need an evidence which could prove our questions!
"Funeral industry members frequently claim that dead bodies are a source of contagion to the public, and that embalming is necessary to prevent the spread of disease."
This quote represents an opinion of John Q.-funeral director and it means that this could be problem for our eco system and we need to find a solution for that. BUT this also which is probably just a funeral myth. Many scientific evidence were found against it but journalism makes their job! It seems terrible that in the fututre when there would be more dead bodies underground, we would breath infected particles that could be a first step of the disease.
It’s important to remember that this is not a matter of opinion, but of facts. "He said, she said" stories are not appropriate. We often see articles that read like this:

"John Q. funeral director says embalming helps prevent the spread of disease, but consumer advocates say this isn't so."
Some specialista says that dead bodies should be far away from the people and should be on the special territories which mady with special construction that will protect the clear air from the infected particles.
For example: dead bodies must be buried in a casket and a vault to prevent “contamination” of groundwater.
The myth of contagion from dead bodies is one of the most persistent of the American funeral industry, and it's important for journalists to know there is no evidence.
So we could understand that this myth is not true but I would NOY YET!because we never know, maybe someday we will reach a top of unembalmed bodies and this will be a danger for us and will affect our healt and ecology system of our system which already is not good so far. We could compare it to the research we did before and we will find a several aspects which makes this topic very different to discuss.

HW 54 - Independent Research B

No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.(Matthew)
To this John replied, “A person can receive only what is given them from heaven. 28 You yourselves can testify that I said, ‘I am not the Messiah but am sent ahead of him.’ 29 The bride belongs to the bridegroom. The friend who attends the bridegroom waits and listens for him, and is full of joy when he hears the bridegroom’s voice. That joy is mine, and it is now complete. 30 He must become greater; I must become less.(John)

I belive in christianity and when I read their articles and opinions(idk how exactly it called) and I want to say that I tottaly agree with them because I always believed and knew that it is right to believe only one God and follow the traditions which are true for the religion you believe. The person who believes in two Gods or more, I think he just confused in his self and he doesn't really know what tradition he should follow. I think by following the traditions of what you believe, shows a respect and seriousness to it and this makes your life being settled up by all traditions and aspects of your God. Also people should choose which they feels comfortable but never change it in the future.
Actually I didn't find the philosopher who is able to answer the questions about the afterlife and so I asked my family friend again who spent 7 years in funeral service. I asked him that how does he think what is waiting for us when we will die. He told me that the answer foe this question depends on what the person who is trying to think about, believe in and that this type of the question just shows our wishes. He sad that we need keep believe in what we want to see afterlife and you never know what will be...maybe we could be right.

For Christians whose lives are guided by the Bible, the reality of death is acknowledged as part of the current human condition, affected by sin . There is "a time to be born, and a time to die"Although eternal life is a gift that is granted to all who accept salvation through Jesus Christ, faithful Christians await the second coming of Jesus for complete realization of their immortality. While waiting for Jesus to come again, Christians may be called upon to care for the dying and to face personally their own death.

The live and death is a natural process and religion helps to figure out what would be after life. The lives stops, but travalling of your soul is still on the way. When you believe in religion, you feel safer. It's like a shield to your soul.

HW 53 - Independent Research A

I found interesting article in the NYT which is related to the "Death" theme.

Making Choices for End-of-Life Care

The new Medicare regulation covering physicians’ discussions with their patients about end-of-life issues is once again under attack by right-wing ideologues. The new rule is specifically designed to give patients the opportunity to explain their wishes about end-of-life care to their personal physicians. It represents a thoughtful and valuable step toward allowing patients to control decisions about their own health care.
It is an ability for the patients to release their thoughts and tell somebody their opinion about the life ending. I found it interesting because it is pretty weird question which maybe in some ways is hard to answer because you are not really imagine that how is their life will end but they have a choices and ability to wish how they want to make a thing which would be memorable to other members of the family and to the friends. It is their own choice which will be not judgemental.
"The proposal in the health care reform legislation to encourage physicians to counsel patients and their families regarding end-of-life issues was welcomed by the vast majority of health care providers. Its exclusion from the final bill was a disservice to Americans.
Modern medicine has much to offer to critically ill patients, but too often life-supporting technologies are employed with little or no hope of recovering to a meaningful existence. Pre-emptive contemplation and advisement is essential to a person’s well-being.
Advance directives, or “living wills,” are statements made by an individual dictating his or her wishes for end-of-life treatment and offer great comfort to families who are confronted with difficult choices in a crisis.
People’s end-of-life wishes should be discussed in advance with their physician, who knows them well, rather than nervously discussed with an unfamiliar provider with whom they have no personal relationship"
I totally agree with this article because I think that each family should get a special help and good support of physican specialists for FREE.

Helping Patients Face Death, She Fought to Live

In this article author discuss abouth how the health care center should motivate their patients and make them understand that there is always a reason to fight for the live and you should never give up. Health center employs always should be helpful and pay deep attention to their patients and also help them morally because this is one of the important things of the supporting.
I asked my Mom's friend who spent 6 years in funeral service and my questions were about the families which placed orders in their service.I asked about the feelings while this process is going. He told me that it depends from the religion of the people because there are many religions that makes people to believe in death differently and all of their feelings and maner of speech depends from this thing. Most of them were sad but some people looked very normal and seemed that they understand that the death is a natural process but also very significant to spend the time to do the things they should do about the funeral.

HW 52 - Third Third of the COTD Book

The precis:
Some character(the doesn't says) read an article in the newspaper about killed pregnant teenager in the accident in unwed mothers. she dropped from the 3rd floor on the cement spot and broke her neck. The body was discovered only on the coming morning by the the gardener. The medics arrived soon and checked if the baby still alive but unfortunately not.
Quotes:
"All of us have to live with decisions we've made, and sometimes we make decisions that are ill informed or without thought of possible consequences."
This quote actually is true and it is a live process. Sometimes our mind just cannot think about the future consequences and we automatically doing the things without a thinking about what really could happen if we would do this.
"I was not a captive in the same manner, but whenever I wanted to express myself creatively I was equally a prisoner."
This quote represents the features of the person and his manner and shows that everybody is different and the actions of the people affected by the emotions.
I will connect the "mortician diaries" to the "guide to ChildBirth" by Ina Mays.It is a very diiferent units by their main ideas and emotions. In "mortican diaries" we start thinking about the and of the life, that death is a last step of our existing and starts thinking abouth what's will be afterlife. Also this book shows us that how difficult and painful to loose a member of your family or just a friend. In "guide to ChildBirth" we getting an experience abouth the new life and the beginning of the life and what response ability we should have to make it clearly and do everything right for a newbirth. BUT these two units are the same in one thing! that the death and birth are very significant time spots in everybody's life who is related to this two topics.

Hw 51

The second third of my book tells us a stories about the funeral and how the characters emotionally react to it.I noted that the author of this book using a details which are in different ways significant to the characters and it makes this book very close to the original feelings that feels people when something happened to them.
Précis: Janice and Andrew were married and Andrew died after open heart surgery. Janice tells the story to the main character about their wedding. How they were different but felt in love and she tells the interesting thing about the husband that asked when he will die, don't use any funeral services and Janice accepted it. I also noticed that always when something ends, we starts to thinks about the beginning and how everything started.

Quotes: "They decided when they married that they wouldn't have children because they both wanted to travel extensively."
This quote shows that the lovers wanted to enjoy their life together and that they didn't want children early it is not bad because they wanted to enjoy the life and then to make a family. always Sad when the wishes a broken.
Quote" she told me she was an only child. Her father died three years ago and was buried in our cemetery."
I found it very sad because it always painful to loose important person in your life as a child because children already will take the life very serious but this is not right and this is very important thing of life changing.
I took a very big experience from reading. I started to imagine he life's of the people who lost somebody and I understand that this a life and always could something happen.
